Anneaux

Hoop earrings are a common rounded earring style. Their clasp is welded into the hoop, making a shape that goes through the entire ear. They appear in diverse textures from simple and smooth to ribbed, twisted or knotted.

The very first hoop earrings appeared in Egypt around 3000 BC to adorn the ears of pharaohs. These original designs were made of gold. In the eighteenth century, slaves and workers wore hoops. Later, the jewellery became a common girt for young girls at their First Communions.

Today, hoops are considered the most ordinary form of earring. They come in every shape, style and size imaginable, ranging from small, modest silver hoops to shoulder-length bright coloured circles adorned with beads and glitter. The vast majority of jewellery businesses including Dinh Van, Mauboussin and Boucheron sell ranges of hoop earrings. Chopard for example offers a line of small diamond hoops.
