The long shorts (or short trousers) came about when the west Indies was colonised by British soldiers, and all of the soldiers wore long shorts. The government of another British colony off the coast of Bermuda were charmed by the fashion being introduced in the West Indies, and introduced Bermuda shorts as part of their uniform for all of its high-ranked officers.
Bermudas or “short trousers” were soon introduced into school uniforms for young children. Today, Bermudas are considered a laid-back, cool look usually worn on holiday and in warm weather. Nonetheless, many designers have introduced a sophisticated Bermudas model in their collections. Marithe Francoise Girbaud, IKKS and Antik Batik all showed Bermudas as part of their Spring/Summer 2008 collections.
