A headscarf is a type of scarf worn in the hair or wrapped around the head,

The first headscarves appeared centuries ago, and were popular among women in the Middle Ages. Later, the linen headscarf was transformed into a turban for men and was worn to protect the head from bad weather. The colour of headscarves often symbolises something. For example, a white headscarf is worn for special occasions.

The English brought headscarves back to Western Europe in the twentieth century and sold them as scarves. The pretty scarves have become a timeless fashion accessory and are sold in every colour and pattern imaginable.

For Spring/Summer 2008, the headscarf became an absolute must-have. Designers like Balenciaga, Zara and H&M featured them in their fashion spotlights.
