Foulard

A neck scarf is a fashion accessory tied around the neck.

For a long time, neck scarves were worn around the neck or in the hair. In 1937, Hermes began designing its trademark square silk scarves that are now an indispensable fashion classic. The silk scarves, 90 x 90cm, have been designed by Hermes for over seventy years. The legendary scarf was worn by the likes of Grace Kelly and Queen Elizabeth II.

In the 60’s, Italian designer Emilio Pucci also launched his own silk neck scarves in bright coloured patterns. Other designers like Versace and Gucci followed the silk neck scarf trend soon after,

Since then, the neck scarf has continued to evolve. The trend was no longer little chequered silk scarves, Isabel Marant introduced a long negligee style for a laid-back vibe. Balenciaga prefers their neck scarves chic in cotton, gracefully tied at the neck and falling over the shoulders.

The neck scarf is now an undeniable timeless accessory, constantly seen on the runways. It can be worn in a cool, nonchalant way tossed around the neck, around the head or sophisticated, tied around the neck.
